MacBook Won't Find My Printer Anymore!

My MacBook Pro will no longer recognize my HP printer, since the Mac update last week. I've tried everything, but I can't figure it out. My printer has worked well for a few years with no issues. It stopped the day after I updated my Mac. I'm 75 and not too computer literate.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

How do I "add it back in"? I was somewhere yesterday that had me reset my printer and I did that twice. But I didn't delete the printer because I didn't know how to get it back. I'm really lost! I need to print some many things.

OK I just did what you said. I clicked on my printer in Preferences, and it only let me "reset the printer", which I did. Now I'm trying to add that printer back, and it's nowhere.

That plus sign is what I did. No printer showed up, so I typed in HPOfficeJet Pro 8710. Then nothing happened. Next plan, Sir? I appreciate your assistance. If I could afford a new printer I would do that.

Verify your printer is turned on & connected...

From the Apple help topic linked above...

<snip>

Add a USB printer

For most USB printers, all you have to do is update your software and then connect the printer to your Mac. macOS automatically detects the printer and downloads any necessary software. For other printers, you may have to complete a few steps to add the printer...

<snip>

Add a Wi-Fi or network printer

If your Mac and printer are already connected to the same Wi-Fi network, the printer might be available to you without any setup. To check, choose File > Print, click the Printer pop-up menu, choose Nearby Printers or Printers & Scanners preferences, then choose your printer. If your printer isn’t available, you can add it...
