How do I stop old Apple Podcasts episodes from appearing in my 'Play Next' list?

I have continuous playback turned off, I’m up to date with all the podcasts I listen to yet every night old episodes of shows I follow, that I’ve already listened to, appear in my “play next” list. Can anyone help! It’s so frustrating

Random episodes from random shows end up in the Podcast's next queue post update Since updating to the new iOS, random episodes from random shows end up in up in the up next queue at the end of the episode. I used to get the next episode from the show I was listening to, how can I change it back to this? I have continuous playback turned off as I listen to episodes while falling asleep and I don’t want episodes playing all night. But if I reach the end of the episode I just want to have the next episode automatically load so I can play it if I want to without having to go back into the library [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Used to play next episode, now jumps to newest podcast Before iOS 16, apple podcasts would queue up next episode in the podcast I was currently listening to and wait for me to press play. After iOS 16, apple podcasts queues up the newest episode of ALL of the podcasts in my library. Not only can I not just continue on to the next episode of the podcast I chose to listen to, it forces me to jump to an entirely different podcast and not even the next unplayed one, but the newest episode of that podcast, skipping all the previous unread ones. Why did apple change this? I cannot figure out how to go back to the old settings. The only documentation I can find on line suggests I have to create a playlist to overide the broken up next list. No thank you, I have way too many podcasts to constantly create playlists. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am about ready to switch to Google or worse Spotify...gross.
