Can’t find file on quicktime player

Hi. I lost a QuickTime Player file and I don’t know how. It was a screen recording. I saved it and everything was fine, I even changed the name file and saved it into a folder. Later today I decided to edit it. I trimmed it and when I exited, it said something along the lines “can’t save it’s incompatible”. But the original video was missing. Thought it was a lag so I turned off and on my computer but then none of the files were there. I looked into the trash and everywhere else but it’s gone. What can I do?
