iTunes Backup Restore Issue
Hello,
My name is Mücahit. I've been an iPhone user since the iPhone 4S and have owned many Apple devices over the years. However, since 2024, I've been facing a serious and recurring issue related to iTunes backup restore.
Until now, I’ve always backed up my devices regularly via iTunes and restored those backups when switching to new devices. But for quite some time, this process has consistently failed across different iPhone models. I’m kindly asking for support and, if possible, a permanent solution to this issue.
Issue Summary:
When I attempt to restore a backup from iTunes to a new or freshly reset iPhone, the process goes as follows:
- I launch iTunes and connect my iPhone via cable.
- I select “Restore Backup” and choose the appropriate backup.
- The iPhone screen displays “Restoring,” and iTunes shows the estimated remaining time.
- After about 5–6 minutes, the process abruptly stops with the following message:
- “iTunes could not restore the iPhone ‘Mücahit’s iPhone’ because an error occurred.”
No error code or further explanation is provided. The restoration fails and does not complete.
Steps I’ve Taken So Far:
- I use the latest versions of iTunes and Windows.
- I use the original Apple cable and have tried other cables as well.
- I’ve temporarily disabled antivirus and firewall software.
- There is sufficient disk space (e.g., 60+ GB free for a 30 GB backup).
- I’ve tried different USB ports, different computers, even a freshly installed clean Windows system.
- I’ve copied backups to an external hard drive and tried the restore on a new computer.
Despite all these efforts, the issue persists.
Apple Support Experience:
I’ve contacted Apple Support multiple times in the past regarding this issue. While the support team was always kind and polite, we couldn’t go beyond basic troubleshooting steps. No deeper technical analysis or escalation was possible.
My Request:
This backup restore process is a vital function within the Apple ecosystem. Unfortunately, at the moment, it feels unreliable and unclear. I would really appreciate assistance in the following areas:
- A clear and official explanation of what might be causing this issue,
- Any alternative solutions or best practices for such cases,
- A way to verify whether my backup files are corrupted or incompatible.
I generally prefer not to use iCloud for large-scale backups, especially during device transitions involving significant data. iTunes has always been my preferred method for such situations, and I believe resolving this issue could benefit many other users as well.
I’ve been very happy with Apple products over the years, and I truly hope this matter can be resolved smoothly.
Thank you very much for your time and support.
