Corrupt itunes backup

Hello!

prior to taking my iPhone to a service center to reapir my screen, I made a full backup of it to my itunes on my windows pc. Now, when I try to restore it, it begins the restoration process, but after a while stops and shows an error message that “the iphone can’t be restored, because the backup is corrupt”.

Funny thing is that in my despair, I downloaded a random tool to “extract” my itunes. AND IT WORKED. I could see all of my photos, but just couldn’t download them. So they are definitely there.

Whats even more funny, is that my (eraced) phone made an another backup (this time with practically no data) and when I tried to restore that, it ALSO FAILED and said that it was corrupted, even though the backup was only 20Gb and done a day prior.

So now I’m quite lost, thinking it could be a problem with my phone?? Any help would be appreciated :))

Hi Ridudu_u,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We'd recommend starting with the steps in If you see an error when you update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod which can help with most restore errors.

1 Update your Mac or PC
Update your Mac. Or if you have a PC, get updates from Microsoft. If you're using iTunes, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.

2 Plug your device directly into your computer
Plug your iPhone, iPad, or iPod directly into your computer's USB port (not into an attached keyboard or USB hub). Make sure that the cable is in good condition.
Make sure that your device is unlocked. If prompted, trust your device.
If you still see an error alert, try a different Apple USB cable or switch to a different USB port on your computer.

3 Restart your computer and your device
Turn off your computer, then turn it on again. Next, restart your device.
Learn how to restart your iPhonerestart your iPad, or restart your iPod touch.

4 Check your computer’s security software
You might need to update, change, or uninstall software that could be interfering with your computer's connection with iTunes.

5 Use a different computer
Update or restore your device on another computer that uses a different network.

If there is an error number, you might also find the guidance from iOS update and restore errors helpful.

All the best.
