Apple Intelligence not working even with US region set — Genmoji and advanced Siri missing

Hi, I’m currently living in Malta and I’ve updated my iPhone to the latest iOS that supports Apple Intelligence. I also changed my region to the United States, but I still don’t have access to features like Genmoji or the new AI-powered Siri with ChatGPT capabilities.


I’ve restarted the device, checked all settings, and everything is up to date — but those features just aren’t showing up.


Could this be because I’m physically located outside the US, even though my region is set correctly?


Also, do I need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network for Apple Intelligence to activate for the first time, or will mobile data work too?


Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Open the Settings App > General > About > Model - does it end in CH/A? If yes, you own an iPhone manufactured for a China Market, and that means Apple Intelligence is not an available option, regardless of where you are in the world or what region you have set your phone to. If that is not the issue, yes, you would likely need to be connected to Wifi to download all the Apple Intelligence components.
