Cannot connect AirPods Max to iPhone, iPad or MacBook Pro with USB-C cable

I'm trying to get Lossless audio from Apple Music using my AirPods Max (USB-C version) and a USB-C connection. My AirPods Max have been updated to firmware version 7E101, and I know my USB-C cable works for other purposes.

However, when I plug my AirPods Max into my iPad, MacBook Pro, and iPhone (all updated to the latest operating system versions), nothing happens. None of the devices even recognizes that I've connected my AirPods Max, let alone let me listen to Lossless Audio, which I have been waiting for.

Do I have to use a particular USB-C cable? Or is there some magical button hidden somewhere that I have to switch on?

Sorry, but your answer is out of date. Apple announced last week that it now supports lossless audio over USB-C for the AirPods Max (current version, not the Lightning version).

And I know how to update my AirPods Max, and they have the version that is supposed to support lossless audio over USB-C.
