Old Airpods Max has Apple’s lightning to 3.5 mm audio cable, how can I connect new Airpods Max if there is no Apple’s USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable? Standard, non Apple, USB-C to audio cable, does not work.

From all I have been able to find out, AirPod Max with USB-C do not work anymore in ANY wired setup. Apple Support confirms this.
I couldn't believe it at first - but mine are going back.
How did you manage to bring them back? In Greece that was not possible. That’s very frustrating and inappropriate for a brand like Apple
