Organizing podcasts to play on Apple Watch without iPhone

I am trying to figure out how to organize podcasts to playback on Apple Watch without the iPhone. I have a group of podcasts that I have grouped together in a station ("Core"), and I want to play the episodes back in chronological order (oldest to newest) on the Watch by mirroring that station on the Watch. I go to Podcasts in the iPhone Apple Watch app and set it to play 10 episodes from that station (Core). However, if I then go to the Apple Watch both "downloaded" and "Core" show much older episodes that aren't shown in the Core station on the iPhone. What am I doing wrong?
