2005 ipod is in reboot loop, also corrupted

I recently inherited a 2005 ipod (i suspect), and it seems to be in a reboot loop. It stays on a loop of 3 screens; the corrupted screen where it tells me to connect to itunes (which I dont have anymore now that I have macOS sonoma), a blank screen with the apple logo, and a "do not disconnect" screen that often gets interrupted by the ipod making a grinding and clicking noise, then going completely black. Before the ipod makes the grinding noise, there is usually a high pitched whirring noise, and the screen flashes from a bright display to a darker version. At first, I thought this issue was a wiring problem, so I wasted my money on another 30 pin charger to plug into my laptop, and it still had the same issue. I tried putting it in "disc mode" by holding the pause and center buttons at the same time, but it never went into disc mode. I really just need it to stop shutting off so I can restore the corruption in apple music, and hopefully Im able to load songs onto it without Itunes, but that's an issue for later.
