For whatever reason, my Event Viewer now shows any clip I use in split screen. When I place a clip on the Timeline, it also appears in split screen, but plays normally.
I have made sure under the menu View/Browser that Skimmer Info is unchecked, and that in Settings/Editing that Show detailed trimming feedback in unchecked.
Any ideas?

I understand what each of you suggested, and I get that there will be multiple thumbnails in the Timeline depending on the duration of the clip. But in List view (which I like better sometimes) the Viewer still shows multiple thumbnails, and I swear it didn't used to. I somehow toggled something this morning that changed it from 1 continuous thumbnail to multiple, depending on how far I slide the browser edge to the right.
Oh well, it's not a huge deal, just an annoying thing that I would think should be able to get reset.

It's easy to reset the screen layout of the browser, etc.

Sometimes the screen layout may be accidentally disrupted. Save your favorite layout as a preset. You can restore it to its original state at any time by recalling the preset. Please see below for instructions on how to save a preset.
That's not split screen, that is just two thumbnails.
If you want the browser to show just one thumbnail per clip:
1) Change from list view to icon view, by clicking here:
2) Click here:
and then drag this slider all the way to the left:
In the timeline, you will see one or more thumbnails depending on the duration of the clip.
If the clip duration were to be longer, you could see a lot more thumbnails. That is perfectly normal.
The only way you will get just one thumbnail is to grab the left side of the viewer and drag it to the left until it covers the extraneous thumbnails.
Try making the Browser pane larger; drag to the right so the filmstrip display is a little wider.
