Re: " ... cd, importing to Apple Music seems to be an issue.
It randomly picks songs and states The required file cannot be found. It then spits the cd out. Am using my IMAC and also a Apple Cd player I bought a few years back that connects via usb,"
Apple Support's article: Import songs from CDs into Music on Mac - Apple Support may be helpful:
Eg: says:
"If you have trouble importing songs from an audio CD
In the Music app
on your Mac, check the following if Music doesn’t recognise audio CDs or if you’re having trouble importing songs:
- If error correction is turned on, it can take longer to import CDs. Choose Music > Settings, click Files, then click Import Settings. If the “Use error correction when reading Audio CDs” tick box isn’t selected, select it. If it’s already selected, deselect it.
- If you have more than one CD or DVD drive, try using Music with each drive.
- If it’s taking a long time to import a song (more than 10 minutes) from an audio CD, the CD may be dirty or scratched. Try cleaning the CD with a soft, lint-free cloth, then importing the songs again.
If you still have trouble importing songs, visit the Music Support website."

Else: If you wish: A different option for importing music:
Ensure you have plenty of space on your Mac to store full-resolution files.
Create a new folder for the CD music album on the desktop, name it, open it.
Double-click the CD icon on the desktop (or look for it in sidebar of a Finder window) to see the CD's contents
Select all the files (or hold down the shift key to select one by one a group of files}
Drag selected files to the folder you created, in one go, or in batches.
Wait for the download to complete.
Done.

Your Mac, your choice:
You can:
- choose where you want to keep the folder of full-resolution files
- import the files to Apple Music Library, and choose whether or not to keep the folder as a back-up.
- just open and play files one by one in the "QuickTime" app
- or use a third-party app (eg; like the free open-source player VLC for MacOS} to create and play playlists.
