Mac won't accept password for software update

Have an Apple MacBook Air M2 running Ventura 13.4. Have not been able to install one software update since I got the Mac around 18 months ago. Every time I enter my password it shakes and doesn't accept the password.

It accepts my password elsewhere, I have tried terminal with no success and have created another admin user also with no success.

Have seen multiple posts about it but am still stuck, please help :(

I used sudo softwareupdate --all --install, it downloads 13.7 but then when I try to install it prompts for a password which it doesn’t accept.

Interesting a may a minor error. Using that command would have probably downloaded the Current Version Ventura 13.7.4

Ventura 13.4. I’ve not been able to update the laptop since I purchased it. I’ve tried multiple times and always had the same problem. Laptop still works but naturally would like to be able to update it.
