How can I fix iPad lock screen glitches?

I have a work iPad Air (Gen 5) - I decided to make some custom screen covers for the Lock Screen using Adobe Illustrator. Each artboard is exported as 1640x2360px - the exact screen size for this iPad model. There a cool ‘tap’ mode on the photo shuffle option for the Lock Screen, which allows to shuffle between images from the Lock Screen with a single tap. The only issue is, I have 5 images that are all the same size and it seems to zoom in on a couple. If I make edits, it may fix one, but I’ve been unable to get all 5 images at the same time to work. It doesn’t allow to change the Lock Screen image like it does in the single option. I’ve tried making minor adjustments in illustrator for many hours with no luck, so I’m beginning to think it’s a glitch. Any ideas?! I’ve adjusted the artboard size, the export settings, changed the text/images. Out of ideas! I’ve even tried to just screenshot the images on the iPad, but still no luck. It’s as if the iPad can sense something on particular images, so it automatically zooms/blurs the image. No problem with a single image, as this can be adjusted to fit. However, with the photo shuffle option, it’s automatic. Consistently, 2 out 5 images will have text cut off.

Illustrator was all I have, so just tried to figure something out. I managed to get all 5 images to play nice last night.

I read online about a fairly recent update by Apple that made cover images automatically blur at the top, so users could still read the time. I figured it must be something to do with this, so I focused on the top area of all the images. These are not happy family images, but filled with graphics and text for work purposes. Whatever small changes I made, it was like a game of random… which ones will go all funky now?! There must be some algorithm that Apple cannot explain in any simple terms.

Here is what fixed it… I have a black background and I made it a slight gradient towards the top (20% grey - so very dark still). They ALL worked! I pushed my luck by adding the small text to the top of the images again, but that messed it up. The small text always worked fine on the top of one of the images, so I left it there. I should probably post some images to help understand what I was trying to accomplish. It would be like playing spot the difference though… and then saying, why does this image zoom in automatically (without being able to adjust in photo shuffle mode), and this other image fits perfectly? All images were the same size dimensionally.

My personal opinion of a conclusion: I don’t think there is an answer and I don’t think any Apple expert could explain precisely what makes some images keep their dimensions and others to change. It’s just some funky algorithm and the only way to make custom images work - is to keep trying.
