iPad mini 4 wallpaper export issue

I lost the original image that was used for a wallpaper.

But I like to airdrop or share it otherwise to use it on another device as well.

There is a thread here Export current wallpaper image - Apple Community but it doesn't provide a solution.

So my thoughts (and other's suggestions) were:

  1. take a screenshot. But I cannot hide the dock and the lockscreen contains the clock. No chance to get a clear blank page with just the wallpaper!
  2. Find the lockscreen settings to hide the clock and take a screenshot- cannot find those settings!
  3. Connect iPad to a computer and see if the images is stored somewhere- no luck. Ipad won't let me anythere else than DCIM.
  4. Some threads suggest to install an app called "lockscreen hide clock", but I cannot find it on the app store.

This is really annoying. Why is it designed like that? From all other dvices I am used to find the wallpaper somewhere in a folder.

Does anyone know a solution here?

While external images can be used as Wallpaper for your iPad and iPhone, Wallpaper images cannot be exported. As such, when using an external image as wallpaper, you should always keep a copy of the original (full resolution) source-image if you expect to require the image again for other purposes.

Be aware that a screenshot will unavoidably include any other elements that are visible on the screen. The screenshot image resolution will be limited to that of the iPad screen - and will not be the original image resolution (that may be significantly greater).

SD Cards are fully supported by iPadOS. You simply need to connect an SD Card reader via your iPad's Lightning connector. By example:

  • Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader

Alternatively, you might instead connect a standard USB SD Card Reader to your iPad's Lightning connector via a USB Adapter:

  • Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter

Thanks.

I will durely leave feedback because this is a design flaw.

The reason why a screenshot doesn't work is exactly because the clock is in there, as you indicated.

So that's not a solution.

The reason why the initial image got deleted was to save space as iPads cannot be upgraded to more memory (no SD cards! Another design flaw...).

I googled the issue and there is obviously a folder (somewhere in /etc...) where the image is stored. But it's not accessible. So a jail break would be the only way to get there. Possible, but am too lazy for this right now, just for a picture.

It's really a shame these devices are so closed, but thanks for the response.
