Apple TV "Continue Watching" is not updating

My Apple TV Continue Watching never updates after I watch a show. It doesn't matter if it's an Apple TV+ show, a show on Hulu, PBS, etc. I have to go and manually say that I've watched it. Sometimes it doesn't give me that option at all, sometimes the menu item is "All episodes watched." This has been going on for months now and I've tried everything. The lasted update I have installed is tvOS18.3 and I have a 4th generation Apple TV.

Apple TV HD, tvOS 18

Having the same problem. I logged out of my Apple TV box (remove this user under Default User) and logged back. Now I can remove shows from my Continue Watching and actual recently watched shows are updated on that screen. So far it’s back to normal

I just noticed this happening recently. Apple content seems to work for me, but not any other content like Disney+, Max, Amazon, etc. It seems to be account related because I tried it on a second device and the same thing is happening on that one as well. Also, I tried logging into another account on the same devices and the continue watching was updating just fine for that account. So yeah, I'm not sure what's going on there, but hopefully there's a fix.

This is happening to me as well on the Apple TV app on my Samsung TV (model QN55QN90BAFXZA, TV software version 1651). This is the Apple TV app version 15.1.0, updated on 1/23/2005.

Sometimes it does not offer me the chance to view the next episode, and when I exit out of the show, it does not remember that I watched the episode. If I try to go to the show (to manually pick another episode), I get a spinner that never ends.

A workaround I've found on my TV is reinstalling the Apple TV app (or disconnecting the TV and plugging it back in to force a restart of the apps).

This is really annoying, though, and I hope this gets fixed soon!

When you search for this problem, posts about it turn up in many places, all seemingly since last month. Most flag the issue as starting with the v18 update of tvOS, and some indicating it was fixed for them after the 18.2.1 patch, but I'm at 18.3 and still experiencing the issue. I'm seeing it on my older Apple TV streaming device (model A2169) but there's some references to newer models not having the issue.

This is happening to me since iOS 18 update. My up next shows from subscriptions purchased through Apple are not updating 100%. When the new shows are posted they appear up to 36 hours after they stream. I watch them long before that and would not like to scroll through every app to find them. Apple TV states it’s a one stop deal. Then after watching anything that is listed I have to manually state it’s been watched. Software is updated, I have reinstalled the app, I have logged out and in, I have turned off the power and back on. How does this get fixed?

This has been an ongoing issue for me as well, and it's so frustrating. "Continue Watching" was the single hub I used to keep track of all of my shows. Like other reports here, I have to manually update it with watched episodes, sometimes it doesn't even let me do that (only gives me the option to "mark all episodes as watched.") It's been useless for several months now. I am watching on my Apple TV app on my Apple TV. I contacted Apple help for this and wasted 30 minutes, they had no clue what to do. If it was another app, I would delete it and reload, but the Apple TV app is hardwired into the Apple TV, so there is no way to do that. It's nice to know I'm not crazy, earlier searches for this problem a few months ago didn't bear any fruit. However, I don't see a fix and I'm not sure why Apple is not taking this more seriously. It was my favorite thing about my Apple TV.
