Carplay WiFi/cellular connectivity with 18.2

I got new iPhone 16 which worked great with my CarPlay until 18.2 was released. Since updating to iOS 18.2 on my iPhone 16 when I connect to wireless CarPlay apps on my phone say they are not connected to the internet, so I can't search for destinations in Waze, or Apple Maps, it won't send text messages (via voice in CarPlay or via physically on the phone). It sends iMessages via SMS (no data). As soon as I turn wifi off to disconnect Wireless CarPlay data starts working again. This seems like a bug bug in IOS 18.2 that it is trying to get data though wifi / Wireless CarPlay. Updated to 18.3 and still not fixed. Wifi assist is not kicking in. Frustrating to say the least and dangerous as I have to turn off WiFi to get maps to work, music to play thru Spotify etc. so can only use Bluetooth for music/calls, but can’t use CarPlay and search anything. Please fix!!

I’m having the same issue and I came here looking for a solution. I can’t use navigation in my car since the last update. I have to disable WiFi in order for Maps or Waze to find my location and therefore CarPlay won’t project directions in the screen. Beyond inconvenient, this is a safety issue that needs resolution quickly.

This has nothing to do with cars audio system. Works fine. The WiFi assist does not work on phone when connected to carplay…therefore you can’t search for anything on your phone when connected to CarPlay. Therefore carplay has to be disconnected, then you search for driving instructions hit go, then reconnect to carplay to see on screen. Takes forever and defeats the entire purpose

If CarPlay doesn't detect your iPhone, make sure CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions are turned on, tap Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is enabled. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, and then tap Forget This Car.

If you're still having trouble with your car's audio system using CarPlay or Bluetooth, try the Aux cable. To get it fixed, there are two options:

  1. Take your car to a reputable car dealer or car audio specialist. They have experienced technicians who can diagnose the problem with the Aux cable. This could be a loose connection, a faulty cable itself, or an issue with the system's Aux port. They'll be able to repair the issue or recommend a replacement cable if needed.
  2. Consult your car's infotainment system manuals. These manuals often include troubleshooting sections that might address common Aux cable problems. You might find instructions for resetting the system, cleaning the Aux port, or confirming the cable's compatibility.

Before taking your car to a dealer, it's always a good idea to check the manuals first. This can sometimes save you time and money if it's a simple fix you can handle yourself. However, if the manuals don't offer a solution, or you're uncomfortable tinkering with the system, then a car audio specialist is the way to go.
