CarPlay blocking data / preventing phone from connecting to cellular data.

Wireless CarPlay uses a WiFi connection with the head unit in the car. It connects briefly to Bluetooth, which redirects the connection to WiFi for CarPlay.

This should not disconnect or have any effect on your cellular data connection.

You might have mentioned you were using a VPN… Yes, it will cause problems. get rid of it. It is not serving any purpose at all. it is NOT making your phone or your data more secure or protecting your privacy in any way. It is collecting data on everything you do and causing problems.

Hi! I had the same issue for a couple of days and solved it this morning: I had to forget my car from the wifi settings - apparently it got connected there as a source of internet, and that was preventing the usage of mobile data. Then reconnected the carplay and the mobile data worked. Regards

Actually, I do. It’s you who doesn’t understand what a VPN is used for or how it works. I’ve been in IT for 35 years. Believe me, I know my VPNs. If you’re not using it to connect to a secure private network it serves very little purpose. The only legitimate use for using a VPN for general internet connectivity is if you are behind a firewall put in place by a repressive government or are a high profile target of same.

You need to educate yourself. Using a so-called “public VPN” does absolutely nothing to protect your privacy or secure your data.

The fix for this is in your WiFi settings in iphone. It is using a WiFi connection to make a hotspot in your car.

in the iPhone WiFi setting “forget the network for your phone. Not the Bluetooth one.

Exactly the same issue and have had for several weeks. (I have a VPN on my phone but I am not logged in and it is not connected). The only way I can get my phone connected with data and carplay both working is to use the wired (not wireless) connection to the car and to turn off wifi on the phone. Then everything works fine. But if I just get in the car as per normal with my phone in my pocket, CarPlay connects wirelessly but no data works. Can't send or receive WhatsApp messages...can't search for destinations in Waze or G Maps, can't use the browser... Nothing. Arrgghhh

I have a similar problem, my iPhone 15 connects automatically to my Audi wifi and I use it mostly for Waze as a satnav. Recently Waze has been operating in off-line mode and no longer has access to any traffic information. Today I noticed I couldn’t connect to the internet via cellular data while connected to the car via Wi-Fi. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with the software update on the iPhone or something else? It basically makes CarPlay completely useless because I use it mostly for Waze as a satnav!

Just tried this, and all good. I don’t understand why the phone has been connecting to the car’s WiFi? Maybe I am misunderstanding how the phone connects to the car, presumably it’s using Bluetooth? I always thought it was via WiFi?

It does tho. Would turning off the vehicle's hotspot help?
