iPhone 16 Pro Max - bricked upon first update

Hi,

I've received new iPhone 16 Pro Max from Amazon. Turned it on, it asked for an update, I agreed. During the update the loading bar got stuck at ~20% (for more than 3 hours).

I had to force restart. After the restart phone started to glitch - it seemed like it was working, but when I tried to unlock it the phone flashed numberpad for a sec and locked again. Nothing else was possible.

I decided to recover it with Apple Devices (have only Windows laptop). During recovery an error poped up saying something that a software could not be loaded and that the file is corrupted, so recovery was interrupted.

After several attempts (I had to click through the above error several times) the software downloaded and restoration apparently started. But each time it stopped at "Verifying Apple Restore with Apple". And nothing happened after.

Finally I have entered DFU mode on the iPhone. Software in Apple Devices downloaded uninterrupted which was good. But then when it came to restoring the progress on Apple Devices got stuck on ~20% saying "Veryifying iPhone restore". Bar on the phone itself again got to 10% and stoped.

What can I do?

Reboot your PC, disable your antivirus and firewall on your PC and try again.

You said you bought it from Amazon, however, they are not an authorized Apple reseller, so it isn’t clear that you got a new, factory sealed device. Was it from Amazon directly, or from an Amazon 3rd party reseller? And was it significantly less expensive than if you had bought it directly from Apple?
