Music folders/playlists edits do not update

Hi, I'm on Mac Pro 2019 macOS Sonoma, and Music folder location is default, on the internal/T2 protected SSD 4TB modules. I manually organise my large Media library that I've managed since mid 90s on Macs.

In Music app, regularly, but not always, I select a playback folder or playlist and edit its title field. Hit Done. The folder/playlist doesn't update as per text entered. Similarly, if I locate m4a files in other drives, the file will playback normally, but once I quite the Music app and reopen, the folders/playlists texts won't have 'stuck' and the m4a locations won't have stuck either and app asks me to locate files again.

I've experimented extensively but can't work out a fix.

At other times (about 50%), the Music app and it's folders/playlists work fine. BTW I've added extensively over the last two years.

any ideas, cheers

Open Music with Option held down and explicitly choose the library that you want it to open. In some cases it seems Music can open a cached version of the library that it doesn't necessarily update correctly.

Close Music, then reopen with Option+Cmd held down. This opens the app in its safe mode and may perform some internal housekeeping.

Right-click on your Music Library.musiclibrary package while Music is closed and select the Show Package Contents option. Show hidden files with Shift+Cmd+. If you see any .tmp files inside delete them.

Using Sonoma and having similar issues, including creating new playlists that I can add songs to but don't show up in sidebar, though they seem to exist somewhere (if I use "show in playlist" feature).

Re-chose the library, seems to have helped somewhat. As for the tmp file fix, what is the full path where I would find the correct package?

Also, will installing Sequoia help (or hurt)? And can I get the "Import CD and Eject" option back somehow? Thanks!

The normal path to the Music library is ~/Music/Music/Music Library.musiclibrary. Right or ctrl click to get a context menu, one option of which should be Show Package Contents. This reveals the files inside the package, it is basically a folder that pretends to be a single file.

I'm using Sequoia on my newer machines. No obvious issues for me, although I haven't actually tested CD import functions.
