Weather app: precipitation way off

iPhone weather app has been way off in reporting precipitation. Today it says we received 131” of snow when we received 8” of snow.

Does Apple monitor their sources? At our location the precipitation has been way off for months.

How would Apple monitor every weather location in the world for a given location at a given time for data accuracy? Apple depends on the non-Apple-owned weather data sources for that accuracy and as you well know, that isn't always accurate.

The best advice I can offer is if you are unhappy with the weather data presented by Apple's weather application, then it may be prudent to use the National Weather Service's website for your location and hope for improved forecasting and current weather conditions. In the U.S. I use weather.gov and not the Apple weather application. Having said that, I live five miles from the airport and it may be sunny overhead and there can be a small raging thunderstorm at the airport.
