Apple Weather App's snowfall forecast discrepancy in Atlanta

Atlanta is forecast for 1-3" of snow today but the iphone Apple weather app says 7-9"??? Part of me would love it if it were true, lol. Seriously, how does the apple weather app predict the snowfall? Maybe they need someone to check this app for accuracy??

There is a winter weather advisory here (MI) for the next 12 hours and the forecast (National Weather Service) is for 2 -4 inches. Due to the chaotic nature of weather systems, this may be more or less, and the best gauge is after it is over and the degree of back pain, or how well the snow blower holds up. If it is powder, I will quickly clear it with the Toro battery-powered leaf blower.

Jeff Donald has addressed the Apple weather app data sources and you might do better with a local TV station weather application if one exists.

I mostly ignore the Apple Weather app and use a local NWS weather page for a forecast, or the optional RadarScope application to see moving NEXRAD radar images of approaching precipitation or severe T/Storm cells depending on the time of year.
