Whattsapp uninstall re-install - Messages only up to middle of December

I just backed up my iPhone and made sure Whatapp was toggled on. I then deleted Whatsapp and reinstalled to clear the cache but it has only reinstated messages up to the middle of December. Why is this?

I have plenty of space on my iCloud and plenty of free space on the phone. So what happened?
