Input/interface issues on iPhone XS with 18.1.1 and 18.2

Ever since I update my iPhone XS to 18.1.1, I've had issues with tapping and gestures on my phone. Selecting things on the touchscreen works or doesn't work randomly. Swiping up from the bottom is frequently problematic either not working at all or selecting something near the bottom of the screen. Sometimes typing results in letters or numbers that will not select or random collections of letters getting entered without input. Scrolling sometimes will not work.

I worked hard to get it updated to 18.2, hoping that would fix the glitches, but it continues to exhibit the same behaviors. It is extremely maddening.

Has anyone else experienced this?

iPhone XS, iOS 18

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

I know there could be a physical device issue causing the problems which happened to start at the same time as the 18.1.1 update. The timing does suggest looking into the ios update theory as a good starting point. Also, I don't know what I can do if the device is broken somehow aside from replacing it.

Can you suggest any specific settings to check? I have icloud backup automatically, but I haven't looked into restoring to an old backup yet.

Thanks for replying!
