iPhone XR Not Charging Properly After iOS 18.2 Update

After updating my iPhone XR to iOS 18.2, I encountered an issue with charging. Every time I need to charge my phone, I must first shut it down and then connect it to the charger. If I plug the phone into the charger without turning it off, it refuses to charge. This problem began immediately after the iOS 18.2 update.

Phone Details:

  • Model: iPhone XR
  • Model Number: MH6M3ZD/A

Has anyone else experienced this issue, or does anyone know of a potential fix?

iPhone XR, iOS 18

Are you using an Apple branded cable and wall charger? How many watts is the wall charger?

Please perform a forced restart. A forced restart does much more than just turning the device off and back on. If you’re not familiar with the procedure, please review the information in the Apple support article I linked below.

I have the same issue, but with an iPhone 14 Pro. After updating to IOS 18.2 yesterday my phone stopped charging by wire. It just stays at the same charging level. I tried 3 different original apple chargers and cables which were just working fine before. Wireless charging is working without an issue. It’s definetly related to the update, as the chargers are still working fine for my wife’s iPhone.

hard reset could not fix the issue unfortunately. Any more ideas of what I can try?

Thank you for the response. I performed the force restart on my iPhone as suggested, but unfortunately, the charging issue still persists.

I do not have an Apple-branded wall charger. My current charger is from Hama GMBH & Co.KG, based in Monheim, Germany. The model is a Switching Adapter (Model: 00188350) with the following specifications:

- Input: 100-240V ~ | 50-60Hz | 800mA

- Output:

- 5V | 3A / 15W

- 9V | 2A / 18W

- 12V | 1.5A / 18W

Please let me know if there’s anything else I should try. Thank you again for your assistance.

I’m having the exact same issue. I do have an Apple branded wall charger and cable but it sometimes just will not charge. It will show the charging symbol but I will lose Battery at the same rate as if not charging. I have also taken it in to be looked at and was told the hardware is fine. I’m at a loss for what to do now and all of this only started after updating to 18.2
