iPhone not charging after ios 18.1.1 update

Since updating to iOS 18.1.1 my iPhone XS max has been having consistent issues with charging via any cable. It happens when I use Apple cables as well as others. It occurred the day after the update, and I didn't have any problems before this. It's so frustrating, what can be done?

I am having the same problems. I thought I lost my mind when my phone wouldn’t charge in the car. I’ve tried all my chargers which are Apple or Apple certified. All have the same problem. Sometimes Accessory not Authorized pops up and the phone often makes that “disconnect/connected” sound. I finally just bought a charger that I can lay the phone on and that seems to work, but that doesn’t really help in the car. Just wanted you to know you aren’t the only one with this problem. I have a 2020 SE.

Wow, I'm pretty glad I don't come here much anymore. You are a Level 7 and acting like a 7 year old.

OP was clear enough. Yes, he did not mention the different wall units he was using but, from his description, he didn't need to — the title says it all: "iPhone not charging after ios 18.1.1 update.” My iPhone XS (not a new one, but not dead either) has a similar issue that seems to be related to the wattage of the charging "brick" (G4 Cube reference); a lower wattage rating will not charge, while my  iMac port and my iPad Pro's large brick works fine.

What concerns me is the lack of courtesy exhibited in your response; you sound like you were a Microsoft PC owner talking down to a mac owner back in the days of my G4 Cube. If you are a crossover then upgrade your level of behavior; you're acting like a child with a better toy, lording it over your lessers.

How far the mighty “Discussions” have fallen. 20 years ago I would not be the only person jumping on this rudeness. If you have to preface a statement with “I’m not trying to be rude or flippant,”  that is likely to be exactly what you are doing, and the preface just indicates that you’re aware of it.

I appreciate you apparently trying help, but I don't understand what you don't understand still when I did include an example. "Doesn't charge like it used to" is pretty clear when accompanied by the text that followed it: It doesn't consistently register that it is plugged into a charging device (as if nothing is plugged into it) when it did before.

My phone used to charge normally - as in without issue. I would plug in the cable and it would charge. I updated the phone to ios 18.1.1 and now it doesn't do that. Do you have advice?

Let’s go with doesn’t register. The hardware detects the physical connection between the cable and port and the charging circuitry activates a display update indicating it’s charging.

You have no indication, so it could be defective hardware and having tried several cables, it could be charging port on iPhone.

It could be software but that would just affect the display and not the physical connection and device will still charge. So, it’s not software.

Take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider and have the charging port examined.

Yes, of course I've tried different outlets. I've also tried charging it from various wall outlets and plugs and and four different battery packs, and it doesn't charge as it used to before the update. It doesn't consistently register that it is plugged into a charging device (as if nothing is plugged into it) when it did before. On the odd occasion it works and registers that it is plugged in, I of course make use of charging it fully, but the issue is it doesn't charge as it used to before the ios update.

Often replies here say 'use an Apple-certified cable/charge' which is what I have done (and why I mention multiple cables).

I understand the words you’re using, >doesn’t change like it used to<. But what does that mean? You aren’t providing any examples. We’re not mind readers. If you don’t specifically say it, we don’t know it. 😀

Im not trying to be rude or flippant. But I’m not understanding what’s changed. If it would be easier I can provide the phone number to Apple Support.

Sorry, you don’t like my writing style. I’m aware my writing may appear offensive to some. I offer apologies when I know it may come across harsh. That’s the issue with lack of face to face communication. Words are precise but often misinterpreted. I use emojis sparingly because some members are offended by emojis. If I’ve offended you too, my sincere apologies.

I too have been on the discussion here for over 20 years. Our paths have probably crossed in the old days.
