M4 Macbook Pro Overheating?;

Hey everybody!

I got my m4 macbook pro base model last week. Everything was fine but for the last couple of days bottom part of the laptop is getting a bit warm. Nothing crazy but you can feel it while using on your lap. And it wasn't like that when i first got the laptop. There was a macOS update few days ago i am not sure that if it is related, idk.. Anyone having a similar issue?

Btw, using very basic apps like spotify, browser, telegram, whatsapp, mail etc..

Macs are designed to be able to run as high as 60 degrees C (114 F) day in and day out, without issue. Older intel Macs routinely got so hot Apple was too concerned about burning you, so the called them all "Notebook computers" . Once Apple-silicon Macs were introduced, notebook computers were finally cool enough to actually be used on your lap.

if you would like a deeper analysis, Consider downloading and running this little "discovery" utility, Etrecheck. It changes NOTHING. Etrecheck was developed by senior contributor here, and uses system calls to collect often-needed information.

it contains little tests for speeds of devices, CPU utilization, memory usage, energy usage and a digest of recent problems, in one easy to use package. it does not even need to be Installed. Because less can be learned when your Mac is running great, best time to run is when your problems are actually occurring, if possible.

if you follow the directions faithfully, its report (pre-laundered of all personally-identifiable information) can be "Shared" to the System ClipBoard, then Pasted into an ‘Additional Text’ window in a reply on the forums.

I am not sure you will get a helpful answer here. While diagnostics software doesn't break anything, all M4 Pro chip computers like the MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini seem to be getting hotter, sometimes hotter than their cooling can handle under certain conditions. These could of course be caused by a system update that introduces calculations in the background, albeit erroneously or too ambitiously. If you are a non-English speaker or bilingual, perhaps head over to a different language forum, which for me was a little more insightful in the past.

Pretty clean MBP m4pro here, it even gets hot when the lid is closed and its expected to be in sleepmode.

So mostly it's even warmer with the lit closed and not used for 12h vs having a couple of tabs open plus vscode, copilot etc.

So to me it's definitely not third party related.

Also it's really stupid that they changed the minimum temp needed to get the fans going, what is their goal here? Melting down our machines so we would buy a new one faster?

Not happy at al to been seeing my temps go to 100 even when not doing really much and the mbp m2 pro I have doesn't have that problem...

So it's definitely their hardware or software that is buggy and not something third party related.
