At certain point of time, everyone must’ve noticed that whether it’s a smartphone, tablet or laptop, almost every device heats up after a certain amount of usage. But we have to to detect when this limit of heating is crossed and reaches “Overheating”. Here is a list of 9 ways to quickly fix MacBook Pro overheating issues:

1. Check Activity monitor

2. Close needless browser tabs

3. Manage your graphics settings

4. Reset System Management Controller (SMC)

5. Keep your MacBook updated

6. Avoid low-quality mac chargers

7. Test MacBook fans

8. Get rid of malware

9. Never block the air vents

Hope this will help you fix MacBook overheating issue!

Hello Poerh,

Thanks for connecting with Apple Support Communities. To clarify, does your MacBook Pro heat up when performing a particular task?

We'd like to provide you with tips that can help to manage the operating temperature:

• Make sure that you’ve installed all Mac software updates.

• Use your Mac notebook where the ambient temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C).
Don’t leave your Mac notebook in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.
You should also use your Mac notebook where the relative humidity is between 0% and 95% (noncondensing).

• Use your Mac notebook on a stable work surface that allows for good ventilation. Don’t use your Mac notebook in your bed, on a pillow, or under bedding.

• Don’t put anything over the keyboard.

• If your Mac notebook has ventilation openings, don't put anything into them.

• Use only Apple-authorized power adapters.

If your Mac notebook gets warm even when it isn’t doing tasks that require intensive calculations,
or if it has fans that run for a long time, use Activity Monitor to check CPU activity. Look for malfunctioning
processes that can put a significant load on the CPU and check for unexpected fan use. If issues persist,
close and open the lid on your notebook, or restart your computer. If you have an Intel-based Mac, reset the SMC.

If you use third-party apps that measure the temperature of your notebook computer, it’s important to understand
that they don't measure the external case temperature. The case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party
apps to diagnose possible hardware issues.

More details found here: Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures

Let us know if this helps.

Best wishes!

Hi!

I had the same problem yesterday. I'm a DJ and streaming weekly to YouTube. Over the last year my MacBook Pro M1 2020 never got warm during my shows. But yesterday after the update to macOS Monterey 12.5.1 the Laptop got quite warm during my show.

I use DJ Pro AI (from the App Store) as DJ software and OBS and butt for streaming. The streaming encoder in OBS is The Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder.

I know it's a very broad description of a problem and we will probably not get a simple solution for it. But I hope the Team at Apple will focus on performance improvements for the next update.
