Error “Find My Unavailable. Unable to share AirTag. Please try later”

Two iPhone 11 Pro’s, 2 IPad Pro’s all on iOS 17.6.1

one of each on two different Apple ID’s with family sharing on.

Network settings all reset.


it doesn’t matter which device the AirTag is set up on (setup works instantly) it cannot be shared to the other Apple ID devices. Every attempt is met with “Find My Unavailable. Unable to share AirTag. Please try later”


Makes no sense Find My is working on all devices for devices but only the ID linked to the tag sees it in items.


Any clues as to why the issue persists would be welcome


the only thing untried is taking the battery out of the AirTag.
