Transferring video from old camcorder but not recognised by MacBook Pro

I have an old Panasonic camcorder bought around 2001 and want to get the footage onto my Mac so I can edit it and have digital copies, but my Mac doesn't recognise it.

I contacted Panasonic to see if I could get a driver but was only one available for Windows not Mac.

I used to connect it to my previous laptop, it took a lifetime to transfer and process, then I had one chance to save to DVD before disconnecting and having to do it all again.

So, does anyone know what I need now to get it to recognise it please? Thank you

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.5
