DV Camera video transfer

I'm trying to transfer some old mini DV footage from a JVC video camera to a 2017 MacBook Air (running Monterey) using a Firewire cable from the DV camera, with a 400 to 800 Firewire/Thunderbolt adapter into the Thunderbolt input on the Mac. But no device is showing either in Photos, iMovie or Image Capture. I'm pretty sure it has worked in the past but that was before I upgraded to Monterey. Is it likely that an upgrade would stop it working?

12.5 was released a few days ago, so you should be able to update.

However, I do not think that this will solve your problem as 12.4, which you have, was the fix for the bugs in 12.3 and 12.3.1

Update iMovie to 10.3.3 if not already done, might not make any difference though.

You say that it has worked before, using the same cables, so it seems you can rule out faulty cables if this is the case recently.

Thanks.

I’m thinking maybe it could be the FireWire/Thunderbolt adapter because I’ve just tried importing video into another MacBook (2014, Mojave 10/14/6) and that was same problem. Nothing showing in Devices anywhere. Then I tried my old 2008 iMac using just the FireWire cable and that worked, no problem.

I’ve probably used that FireWire adapter maybe once since I bought it three years ago so it seems odd that it would be faulty now.
