AirTag Sharing Is Not Available in iOS 16.7

One AirTag was successfully added to my wife’s iPhone 14 running iOS 16.7, she can track it, but can’t share it with me. Another AirTag was added to my ProMax 13 running iOS 17.3 with my valid Apple ID (not a child ID), and I see the Sharing button available, but couldn’t share with her due to two different iOS versions (at least I got a warning). Her phone is missing the Share button on AirTag,

but she has her location sharing turned-on. This is not right, and so inconsistent, the community Q&A didn’t help that much. How can she change some setting(s) on iOS to let the Sharing button appear?

Sorry to hear about the issues with your AirTag. I've had a similar issue with mine before and here's a few steps you can take to help fix the issue.

  1. Update iOS: Ensure her iPhone is updated to the latest iOS version. Since your iPhone is on iOS 17.3, it's best to have both devices on the same or at least compatible versions for all features to work properly. Go to:
    • Settings > General > Software Update and install any available updates.
  1. Check Location Services:
    • Ensure that Location Services are enabled.
    • Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and ensure the switch is on.
    • Scroll down to Find My and ensure it's set to "While Using the App" or "Always."
  1. Check Find My Settings:
    • Go to Settings > [your name] > Find My.
    • Ensure that Share My Location is enabled.
  1. Re-add the AirTag:
    • If the above steps don't resolve the issue, try removing the AirTag and re-adding it.
    • Open the Find My app, tap on the AirTag, scroll down, and tap Remove Item.
    • Reset the AirTag by pressing down on the stainless steel battery cover until it spins off, remove the battery, press down until you hear a sound, and then reinsert the battery.
    • Follow the steps to add the AirTag again.

For your iPhone (ProMax 13 running iOS 17.3):

  1. Check Compatibility:
    • Make sure that the version of iOS 17.3 on your iPhone is fully compatible with the AirTag sharing feature. Sometimes, minor updates are released to fix specific bugs.
  1. Attempt Sharing Again:
    • After ensuring both devices are on compatible iOS versions, try sharing the AirTag again.
    • Open the Find My app, tap on the AirTag, and tap the Share button.
    • Follow the prompts to share the AirTag with your wife's Apple ID.

Additional Troubleshooting:

  • Restart Devices: Restart both iPhones to ensure all recent changes are applied correctly.
  • Apple ID: Ensure both your and your wife's Apple IDs are signed in correctly and there are no issues with the Apple ID.
  • Reset Network Settings: Sometimes resetting network settings can resolve connectivity issues.
    • Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

If none of these steps work, you might need to contact Apple Support for further assistance as there could be a bigger issue with the AirTag.
