Why won't my Apple TV 4K work as a HomeKit Hub.

I have an Apple TV 4K and it was serving as the hub for my home. Suddenly it stop acting as the hub. When I go into the settings of ATV4K then AirPlay and HomeKit, scroll down and select room; I can’t select a room. It has the spinning wheel. I reseted the ATV and no joy, the same spinning wheel. And it is up-to-date with to tvOS 17.4.

  • Please verify in the Home app on iPhone or iPad, that the Apple TV box is assigned for the intended home and room. That would then push this information through iCloud to the settings on Apple TV.
  • Also verify that the Apple TV box has been signed in for with the Apple ID account for HomeKit administrator use (Settings﹥Users and Accounts﹥ᴅᴇғᴀᴜʟᴛ ᴜsᴇʀ﹥ᴀᴘᴘʟᴇ ɪᴅ﹥iCloud: «…»).

I’m having the same general issue. I can reset the system and log back in through a complete reset, but it is only a temporary fix.

I think this is a software bug impacting the connection between the hub and the servers allowing for the iCloud features. It seems to be having authentication issues. The system claims it isn’t signed into iCloud, but the bug doesn’t impact the other iCloud and AppleID dependent features. At least I have no issues accessing purchased content, AirPlay 2, and even local access to the HomeKit accessories.

The error started upon release of tvOS 17.4, and it has not been fixed in subsequent updates.
