mac studio shuts down on boot up

mac studio shuts down on boot up

My M1 Max studio shuts down when trying to boot it up. After pressing the power button the white light comes on for about a second and the fans kicking then it just shuts down. Taken it to an Apple Genius Bar and they got it to work and factory reset it but after getting it home the second time I have come to turn it on and it’s doing the same thing. Pressing and holding the power button does not help. Has anyone come up against this before and have a solution please??

Grant Bennet-Alder thank you very much for your response. I only have my monitor plugged into it but I will give this a try and see if it starts up.

on the very odd occasion it does start up and boot properly then the machine runs fine. It’s like the issue is all on start up

Let readers know if you learn anything.

If the solid Apple appears, that Icon is NOT in the Mac's ROM after a cold start, it is loaded in the first 'blob' of software from a know place on the drive. seeing the solid apple says your drive can produce at least some consistent data.

When I get to the bottom of it and figure out what is going wrong I will share for any others that may have the same or similar issues down the line.

it doesn’t even get as far as that as it shuts down in the middle of the welcome chime.

I have just removed the outlet faceplate and checked and all the wiring seems good. I have checked the power cable in the back of the Mac too and all seems tight with no movement…. On the very odd occasion it does boot up the studio works perfect and runs apps, email safari all those kinds of things so I don’t know if it’s hardware or software to be honest

I've started experiencing this same issue. For a week it would just happen once after pressing the power button, then the second time it would start up just fine, leading me to question if I had turned it on the first time. This morning I turned it on 5 times with it shutting down immediately after the chime. I unplugged all my peripherals one at a time and once I unplugged the HDMI cable of my monitor it stayed on.

Happened again this morning. I tried unplugging my monitor, still would crash. I plugged it into a different wall outlet (in the same room) still crashed. I then went to make a coffee, tried again and it started up fine. I'll try in another room, but seems to be a tricky issue to replicate.

The Chime sound is generated in Software immediately AFTER your Mac passes the Power-on Self Test. Hearing the chime or seeing boot-up continue says your Mac is working properly.

The next step is to look for a source of software to load.
