CD on a Superdrive generates Error 54 after upgrade to Sonoma 14.3.1 when trying to play using Music App.

I upgraded to Sonoma yesterday. I purchased 6 new Audio CD’s today and the system sees the CD’s can list the content, prompts me to load the CD into the library but for all CDs returns the Error 54. I have tried editing the permissions of the files, I have successfully written a playlist to a CD-RW but I cannot get any of the CDs (including the burnt ones)to play using Music.

Exactly the same problem here: I am copying my CDs (#1000) to my Apple Music Library. Everything went well with the Apple USB Superdrive until the 24th. After updating to Sonoma 14.3.1 (Apple MacBook Pro 2023, Apple M2), Apple Music replies adamantly "error 54 while converting a file” any time I insert a CD. I can’t even play a CD (my Superdrive is functional: tested on an old MacBook). XLD is not an alternative as “Apple can’t test it for malware”.

I spent countless hours reading everything on the net. Nothing works. I removed completely the old music folder and started a new library. Nothing works. I move the music folder up in the hierarchy. Nothing….

Any sound advice would be appreciated… (I am an Apple user since the Mac II CX days)
