After latest Sonoma update I can no longer copy CD's onto my Music App on my Mac mini

The Sonoma 14.3.1 update appears to have a major bug: since I loaded it onto my computer shortly after it was launched, I can no longer copy CD's onto my Music App on my Apple Mini which freezes after selecting the first song. I have recently copied some 50 CD's on to my computer and have never had a problem. The CD concerned was brand new. I checked CD's that I previously copied and have the same problem. The message I get is "unknown error occurred (-54)". Can Apple or anyone in the Community help?

Hello all,

I saw the same issue on another forum so I had to try for myself.

I inserted a music CD in a SuperDrive connected to an iMac using macOS Sonoma 14.3.1. When I tried to play the CD, the Mac prompted me to allow external devices. I allowed it and the music played.

I mentioned a discussion on another forum because they were offering a potential solution which I thought I wouldn't see if I hadn't gone through the steps above. The solution is to go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Files and Folders, expand "Music" and to make sure "Removable Volumes" is activated. When I go there, that setting is checked.

Sorry, I don’t know of a way to display those settings. I think those are added in System Settings when you first grant access to external devices when Music prompts you.

I don’t know what to recommend but you could try to unplug your CD drive, reboot the Mac, plug the CD drive, open Music and load a CD.
