Notes checklist automatic sort not working

Hello Apple community,

I would like to sort my iPhone notes checklists (not Reminders but rather checklists in Notes) such that when a new task is finished, and I check the radio button next to it, it moves that task to the bottom of the list. (Also helpful for making grocery lists.)

However, even though I have gone into settings and chosen “automatic” for the sorting option, Notes still refuses to move finished items to the bottom of the particular note I’m working on. Any ideas?
