Universal Control not Working. "add display" and "linked keyboard and mouse" options are not visible on MacBook Pro OS Sonoma

I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING

I'm trying to connect my Macbook Pro to my iPad Pro to use Universal Control and, it is not working.

  • there is no 'plus icon' in the display settings to add a screen
  • when I use a cord to hook up both devices, the plus icon appears but can only be used as an extended display or mirror display (that is not what I want)
  • there is no option to use the iPad as a "linked keyboard and mouse."
  • (even with the cord)

I have rebooted, restarted, put devices to sleep, logged out of iCloud, used the option key, put on and off the required settings etc. and NOTHING.

HELP!

Sincerely,

A depressed loyal Apple User.
