Apple Pencil (2nd gen.) not pairing with iPad (6th gen.)

The iPad 6th generation (2018) is not compatible with a second generation Apple Pencil.

Note, there are also iPad Mini and iPad Pro 6th generation and those are compatible with it.

Different models of Apple Pencil use entirely different pairing and charging interfaces.

While the second generation Pencil and Pencil Pro both use inductive charging/pairing, the inductive-coupling components that charge the Pencil are positioned differently - this being necessary to accommodate camera hardware used in 2024 models of iPad Pro and iPad Air.

In summary, Apple Pencil models are not interchangeable - and can only be used with the iPad that has appropriate internal hardware.

My brand new 6th generation iPad Pro (12.9 inches), which is listed as a supported device, doesn’t see my 2nd generation Apple Pencil. Additionally, the pencil attaches loosely compared to how it connects to my old 11-inch iPad Pro.
