Apple Pencil not connecting to my new iPad Air 11

Brand new 2025 iPad Air 11” and brand new Apple Pencil Pro and just upgraded to iOS 18.4. Pencil will not pair by placing it on the magnetic strip and by also restarting iPad while pencil is connected and/or by restarting iPad before connecting pencil. Bluetooth is on and I’m on the correct network. Ridiculous. Has anybody found a fix?

Never mind. After hours of trying, I tried once more and it connected. I did nothing differently.
