Unable to View Location of Shared AirTag on iOS 17.1.2

Hello Apple Community,

I'm encountering an issue with my AirTag and would appreciate any guidance or solutions you might have.

Issue Description:

I am unable to view the location of an AirTag that has been shared with me. The AirTag appears in my list of items, but its location is not being displayed.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Received a sharing invitation for an AirTag.
  2. Accepted the invitation on my iPhone.
  3. Checked the 'Items' tab in the 'Find My' app.
  4. Observed that the AirTag is listed but its location is not visible.

Affected Devices:

  • iPhone 14 Pro, iOS Version 17.1.2
  • Another iPhone X, iOS Version 17.1.2

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:

  1. Restarted both iPhones.
  2. Checked that location services are enabled.
  3. Ensured both iPhones are updated to iOS Version 17.1.2.

Any insights or suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Same issue for me, my wife and son. We removed the AirTags shared and then reshared again. The AirTags in my Find My that i shared with them won’t show my AirTags location to them. The AirTags they shared with me do not show location in my Find My. Some issue with shared AirTags location. This started last Friday December 8th.

Apple support told me that this is a known issue and they are working on to fix it with next iOS update. I don’t know if she meant iOS 17.2 or iOS 18 though.

iOS 17.2 will release soon and lets see, if that fix the issue or else, in future updates. I wish apple proactively publish this, so that customers are aware than calling apple support.

I’ve given up on Apple. IOS is now incredibly unreliable. If you need to rely on shared items in find my, you are out of luck. I have several items my wife shares with me. 5 minutes after they show up in my find my shared with me list, they disappear rending the whole concept of find my irrelevant.

And yes, I am under the threshold of max items in find my. It’s sad to see how far quality and usability has fallen. And each new patch breaks more than it fixes. They make good hardware, but that doesn’t t matter when you absolutely can not trust the integrity of the OS. I can wait to rid myself of every single Apple product I own. It’s a sad shadow of what it used to be. I know many Apple loyalists abandoning their products in droves.
