iPhone, 14 Pro, Max and editing text problems

When texting and wanting to go back up and revise a sentence; normally you should be able to press down on the space bar and drag the flashing bar to the front of the sentence you want to edit. However, I am unable to do that or I am limited or prevented from doing this. Is there a bug in the message program?

Having the same problem, so frustrating. I’ve been writing texts in notes, then copying/ pasting back into text. Big waste of time for something that’s always been so easy.
