Why has iPhone texting functionality gone backwards not allowing part of a text message to be copied??
Previous tutorials instructed to double tap a word and use bars to select a string of text. Or triple tap to select the entire paragraph.
Now all you can do by tapping is get a menu that only allows the entire message to be copied, which is incredibly annoying.
Am I missing something or this just another bizarre iOS regression?

While this is not a direct answer to your question, we'd like you to know that it is possible to edit a copied text.
After pasting the message that you copied, you can "touch and hold the right edge of the document, then drag the scroller to locate the text you want to revise."

Thank you for this info. It’s useful, though, as you say, doesn’t directly address the problem. But it is a workaround.
It’s really odd to me that I can’t select specific text within a message, for instance a phrase that I then want to paste into a search window, or some info I want to add to the Notes field in Contacts.
I notice this is the case with Facebook Messenger as well. So I’m guessing it is some limitation with messaging software??

It’s been buggin’ me since it began too. 😕
I hadn’t realized how much I routinely “extracted” from Messages until this started.
