iMessage notifications showing up titled message instead of contact name

Same! It started happening today, I haven’t changed any settings or updated my phone, but now I don’t see their contact name, just “Messages” and their contact photo!

This happens to me every time I go to a certain part of town. I drive 15 minutes away to my boyfriend’s house and when I go back home my messages start to not show the contact name. It actually happened yesterday while we were at a concert. Idk if it’s a wifi issue or what. But sometimes it goes back by itself or i just restart my phone.

Same problem here. Unfortunately this solution doesn’t fix the issue.

If you do this it will then show what the message says. When it comes onto locked screen.

Previously it would just say the contact name and below it iMessage or text message.

I figured out how to fix it! Just turn your phone off and then back on. It was back to normal after that! I think it’s a glitch with the latest update. It happened to me again recently, but again I just shut my phone down and when I powered it back on it was fixed.

No. As was explained in the terms of use to which we all agreed when we registered here, this is a user-to-user forum. Apple's participation is largely limited to making sure we all follow the rules.

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap Notifications.
3. Scroll down and tap Messages.
4. Under Show Previews, tap Always.
5. Close the Settings app.

Google said if one of the iMessage users in a chat has poor service then that will happen. But my bf just texted me using the same WiFi I’m connected to, his messages pop up as “Message. Notification” instead of showing his contact name. But if I text him on the same WiFi, my contact name shows up on his phone. So it’s clearly not a connection issue.

This bug is also infrequent. It doesn’t happen all the time. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for the issue, and no way to troubleshoot.

This fix will show the name of the contact AND the first line of message. I believe most people on this thread only want the contact name and no message preview. They are looking for a fix to go back to the previous setting of "Name" directly above iMessage/text message.

I’ve also just got the same problem today, and I can’t figure out how to keep the name on screen but hide the message like it used to be

The change you suggest above shows both the sender and the message. I want to get back to only seeing the sender and do not want to include the first line of the message.

This just started randomly happening to me today too. Did you ever find out how to fix it?
