I have not sound when i get a message when the phone is locked, I get alerted on my iwatch only

Since upgrading to IOS 17 then 17.1 I am unable to get any sound for text messages when my phone is locked. I get my haptic on iwatch (which has also been udpated) but no way to get sound for messages on my phone . I have been in and checked every setting I can find to make sure the sound is on. I do get alert sounds when my phone is unlocked (which isnt needed when i am looking at it) . Very frustrated. I have turned the sound on my iWatch so at least I hear it .

If you were getting sound notifications on both your phone and watch at the same time previously, that was not working as it should have.

You will not get audible notifications on the phone if you are wearing the watch and it is unlocked.

That’s how it’s supposed to behave.

That’s correct. That is by design. That’s the way it’s always worked with an Apple Watch.

It was not this way before the IOS upgrade last week. This is new for me. I have an Iphone 13 and it worked fine until the last week.
