No sound notification on my iPhone 12

My iPhone 12, running iOS 16.6 has stopped giving me sound notifications when I receive a text. The phone only vibrates, so when I receive a text it is very easy to miss. I don’t have an apple watch and have never paired my phone with one. I have other Bluetooth devices but this happens regardless of whether they are attached. Interestingly, when I use my Bluetooth headphones, the sound will come through them. Other sounds seem fine, but I also have he same issue when I get a WhatsApp notification.

I’ve checked everything, and stepped through suggestions in other threads on this issue, but I feel my issue differs in that there is no watch involved.

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We would recommend checking the alert settings as listed below that can help:

Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad

Change alert styles

1. Go to Settings and tap Notifications.

2. Select an app under Notification Style.

3. Under Alerts, choose the alert style that you want. If you turn on Allow Notifications, choose when you want the notifications delivered—immediately or in the scheduled notification summary.

With iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 or later, you can turn on Critical Alerts for supported apps so notifications come through even if your iPhone is muted or you have a Focus set up.
