Airdrop PDF files

In iOS 16, when I used airdrop to send a PDF from one device (iPhone or iPad) to another or from Mac to a device, the recipient was able to select which app opened the file. My experience with iOS 17 is that the recipient is not offered a choice. PDF files are automatically sent to the Files app, i. e., iCloud Drive. Is there any. way to change that?

When you open a PDF file on your iPhone and/or Mac, that file will automatically open regardless of where it is saved.

You do not need / have to select which program you want to open that file with.

If you want to edit a PDF file, click on that file and 'open with'. . . . . (on Mac, if you have a PDF editor program).

Where do you want to save those PDF files?

Files app is a program where files are stored, even if you send a doc file (as far as I know).

Maybe I misunderstand you. . .

I've never seen the option to select / choose where to save a file.
