Can a Named Message Group be set up with mixed iPhone and android members?
Apple Support doesn't appear to ever answer this direct question. Yes or No please Apple. If yes, how?

While you can rename a group chat in iMessage, this is not an option for mixed message threads. As mixed or MMS/SMS group threads go through your carrier, they don't have the same options as an iMessage thread.
