Flaky CarPlay (again)

CarPlay has gone off the deep end - again.

This seems to happen every time I upgrade to a new iPhone.

Last time it was a 13 Pro. This time its a 15 Pro. I'm connected with an Apple USB cord with a Lightning to USB-C adapter.

The phone will connect and launch CarPlay but then disconnects itself after a time. I've gone into CarPlay settings and forgotten my Ford truck then set it up again.

Very frustrating - anyone else having the same problem?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 15

Hey Will Starck1,

Apple has a disclaimer in their article, About the USB-C to Lightning Adapter, that says:

Connect to CarPlay
You can use the USB-C to Lightning Adapter with wired CarPlay in most vehicles. However, some combinations of adapters, cables, and vehicle entertainment systems might disrupt the wired CarPlay connection. In this situation or for cars that support only wired CarPlay, use a direct connection with a USB cable.

This may explain why your CarPlay keeps disconnecting.

Warmest Regards.

Thanks.

I have had nothing but problems with anything but Apple USB cables, so that's all I use. I've tried a brand new USB-A to Lightning connector with the adapter, and my previous USB-A to Lightning cable with the adapter. Neither works.

I see that Apple is selling a Belkin BOOST Charge Pro Flex USB-A to USB-C cable online in the Apple store. There wasn't anything available at my local Apple Store when I was in there a couple of weeks ago, I may drop in today.

I've seen on other posts that people have had success with rebooting their CarPlay receiver so I'm gonna try that next.

Seems like this is another embarrassing fail on Apple's part since one would expect the majority of vehicles on the road that have CarPlay receivers have USB-A connections. How did they miss this?

UPDATE: This article in 9to5Mac expands on the topic---> https://9to5mac.com/2023/10/13/iphone-15-usb-a-to-usb-c-cable/

The TLDR is they are offering the Belkin cables online in the Apple Store but they won't be available to ship until Nov. 3rd. No word on when they will be available in Apple Stores
