How do I make the Standby Mode display stay on all night, please?

On my Standby settings screen, it says "Display: Always On: When Always On is enabled, the display will intelligently turn off when not in use." How do I make the Standby Mode display stay on all night, please?

I have turned off Sleep Mode and Do Not Disturb, but the Standby Mode display still turns off after a minute or two.

iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 17

I did two long chat sessions with Apple Support. Then I spent an hour on the phone with a Senior Advisor while she viewed my iPhone screen and we tried various settings.

The erratic and unpredictable behavior I described still occurs. IMHO the "Always On" software that is supposed to make "the display intelligently turn off when not in use" is dynamically unstable.

Standby Mode has two settings:

  • "Display Always On" disabled turns off the display after a few seconds.
  • "Display Always On" enabled turns off the display "intelligently".

I would like a setting that does not turn off the display at all. I suspect this is what most users want.

Hello hscohen,

We would like to see how we can help you with StandBy mode. Are you following the steps in this link to start StandBy: Use StandBy to view information at a distance while iPhone is charging - Apple Support

"Start StandBy

  1. Connect iPhone to a charger and set it down on its side, keeping it stationary.
  2. Press the side button.
  3. You can swipe left or right to switch between widgets, photos, and clocks. Swipe up or down to scroll between options for each of these views.

When Night Mode is on for StandBy, the screen adapts to low ambient light at night and displays in a red tint so that it’s not intrusive while you’re sleeping."

Cheers!

in Standby Mode the screen goes black at unpredictable intervals. Sometimes it reappears when it senses motion, and sometimes not. Sometimes it reappears when I touch the screen and sometimes not. Sometimes the Standby screen stays on for hours and sometimes it goes black after a few seconds. The Standby Mode “Always on” control says that the phone will “intelligently turn it off”, which is exactly what it should NOT do.
